LEADERS OPINIONS
United
States Congressman Henry Brown, Jr.
“I
consider I-73 to be the District’s top transportation
project. I am working to get the corridor moved from number
5 to number 2 on the federal highway-funding priority
list. However, our state and the federal delegations must
work together toward this goal. A commitment from the
State Transportation Infrastructure Bank to fun 10 percent
of the project through South Carolina would be the ‘ace
in the hole’ to move it on the list.”
United
States Congressman John Spratt
“Interstate
73 is a shining example of bipartisanship for our state.
Henry Brown and Senator Hollings have provided enormous
help in pushing this project forward, and cooperatively,
we have made a real dent on the funding shortages. It
just goes to show what can be done when we put partisanship
aside and do what’s best for South Carolina.”
South
Carolina Representative Alan Clemmons
“I-73
remains my top priority and I am thrilled with the progress
we have made. I am very encouraged by the funding we recently
received and am optimistic about the funding we could
receive in the near future. Thanks to the leadership of
our South Carolina Congressional Delegation and the enthusiastic
support of SCDOT, the State Infrastructure Bank and my
peers in the South Carolina legislature. I believe we
are poised to make great strides in 2009 and beyond. I-73
will become a reality sooner, rather than later.”
